DIHR, which is a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) like the ZHRC, is one of the existing partner organisations of the Commission. The Institute provides technical and advisory support to the ZHRC on a “sister – to – sister” relationship that encourages cross learning and sharing.
The DIHR delegation comprised of the Director – Mr Jonas Christoffersen, Senior Advisor (Rule of Law) – Mr Fergus Kerrigan, Special Advisor and Regional Co-ordinator – Southern Africa – Ms Lise Dahl and International Journalist (Press officer – Mr Jacob Basboll.
The DIHR team met with the ZHRC Commissioners and were appraised of developments within the Commission as well as the challenges that the Commission was facing.
DIHR also shared its strategy with the Commission and emphasised that although DIHR provided support to Ministries and human rights organisations outside Denmark, it did not dictate what Commissions should or should not do.
The delegation also met the Complaints handling team members to share experiences and best practices on complaints handling and investigations.
