Mrs Makanatsa Makonese
Mrs Makanatsa Makonese joined the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission as Executive Secretary on 1 January 2017.
Mrs Makonese is a human rights lawyer with international experience having worked in and implemented human rights, democracy and governance and rule of law programmes in a number of countries with a focus on the SADC region.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree, a Master’s Degree in Women’s Law and is currently undergoing the examination process for a PhD in Women’s Law (focusing on land rights and international human rights law). She has worked in Government, Civil Society and in the private sector as a practising lawyer. She has implemented programmes and held positions of responsibility and leadership on initiatives focusing on human rights, the rule of law, democracy and governance, law reform and the development of the legal profession including as a member of the International Institute of Law Association Chief Executives (IILACE) and the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Lawyers’ Association. Her most recent publications (2015 and 2016) focus on Women’s Rights under the New Zimbabwean Constitution, Customary Law and the Enjoyment of Women’s Rights in Southern Africa (with a focus on Lesotho, South Africa and Botswana) and The Role of the Legal Profession in Promoting Free and Fair Elections.
Mr Erick Mukutiri
Mr Erick Mukutiri is the Deputy Executive Secretary Programmes. Mr Mukutiri is a holder of a Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Strategic Management from Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) and a Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) Degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). He has more than 12 years’ experience in managing Human Rights Based Development Programmes and Projects attained through working for local and international development organisations. He also has experience working in the public sector.
Mr Hosiah Gadzai
Mr Hosiah Gadzai is the Deputy Executive Secretary Administration. Mr Gadzai is a holder of a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from the Midlands State University (MSU) and a full Chartered Institute of Secretaries (CIS) Diploma. He has more than 22 years’ experience in the banking and public sectors.
Mrs Kurai Makumbe
Mrs Kurai Makumbe (nee Wabatagore) is the Chief Human Rights Officer – Complaints handling and investigations.
Mrs Makumbe is a holder of a Master of Law Degree in Legal Aspects of HIV and AIDS from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Pretoria. She has more than 10 years’ experience working for government, private and civil society sectors.
Mrs. Karukai Ratsauka
Mrs. Karukai Ratsauka (nee Nyanhanda) is the Chief Human Rights Officer-Education, Promotion and Research.
Mrs Ratsauka holds a Master of Development Studies Degree (MDS), Master of Education Degree (MED), Bachelor of Arts (BA) General Degree and a Graduate Certificate in Education (Grad CE) as well a London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Diploma in Public Relations, Marketing and Sales Management. She has more than 25 years’ experience working in government, United Nations (UN) and civil society sectors.
Ms Priscillah Mbanga
Ms Priscillah Mbanga is the Chief Human Rights Officer for Monitoring and Inspections. She joined the Organisation on 1 November 2014. Ms Mbanga is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Women’s Law and a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree (LLBS) from the University of Zimbabwe. In addition she holds certificates in Public International Law and State Party Reporting. She has over 12 years work experience.
Mr Chikohwero Tanyanyiwa
Mr Tanyanyiwa is a holder of a Master of Commerce in Accounting degree (MCom), a Bachelor of Accountancy Honours degree (BUSE), Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (CUT), Advanced Diploma in Technology Education (CUT), Diploma in Fundamental Investments, IAC Financial Accounting Intermediate Certificate, and a Certificate in Advanced Financial Management in the Public Sector (ESAMI). He is currently finalising his ACCA studies. Mr Tanyanyiwa has more than 12 years’ experience in both public and private sector institutions covering Financial Management, Accounting and Reporting, Teaching, Administration and general management.
Mr Vincent Tera Makoni
Mr Vincent Tera Makoni is the Human Resources Director.
Mr Makoni is a holder of a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from the Midlands State University (MSU), a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree (BSc Hons) in Psychology (UZ) and a Diploma in Personnel Management (IPMZ). He has more than 14 years post qualification experience.
