The Chairperson, Commissioner Elasto Hilarious Mugwadi, Commissioners and Secretariat of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) heartily congratulate the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Dr Makanatsa Makonese on her attainment of a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PHD) from the University of Zimbabwe.
The title for Dr Makanatsa Makonese’s thesis was, “The Policy and Legislative Framework for Zimbabwe’s Fast Track Land Reform Programme and its Implications on Women’s Rights to Agricultural Land”. This was contextualised through an analysis of the land laws from the colonial period, the immediate post-independence period, customary land laws and the international human rights framework on women’s human rights and women’s right to agricultural land.
The completion of a PHD by the Executive Secretary is no mean achievement in view of the fact that very few Zimbabweans have excelled to that level. The Commission has no doubt that this great achievement will go a long way to inspire other women, the girl child and the generality of people in Zimbabwe to take their education to the highest level.
The Executive Secretary’s accomplishment shall motivate us at the Commission to scale greater heights, not only in our individual capacities but in the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in Zimbabwe in line with the Commission’s Constitutional mandate.
MAKOROKOTO, CONGRATULATIONS, AMHLOPHE!
